Flox is a wildlife science technology company dedicated to enabling harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife. Founded in 2020 as a research-based spin-off from KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm, we bring together AI expertise and wildlife biology to create ethical, sustainable tools that deter without harm, monitor without intrusion, and continuously adapt to local ecosystems.
By joining, you contribute directly to protecting ecosystems, agriculture, and infrastructure. You will be building technology that lets people and wildlife share space safely.
Edge is our AI-powered wildlife deterrent system. It detects, identifies, and safely deters species in real time using non-invasive methods. Built for agriculture, forestry, infrastructure, and airports, Edge is rugged, autonomous, and designed to operate in extreme outdoor conditions while integrating seamlessly with the Flox Wildlife Platform for monitoring, analytics, and control.
You will join a small team of talented engineers working together to strengthen and expand the embedded capabilities of Edge.
Contribute to the development of embedded systems combining sensing, intelligent detection, and actuation
Design and optimize firmware for real-time detection, classification, and response under tight power and energy constraints
Collaborate on secure, reliable device connectivity including remote provisioning and OTA updates
Ensure durability and robustness for long-term outdoor deployments
Help define and maintain frameworks for hardware and firmware validation, compliance, and field testing
Work closely with cloud, data, and wildlife science teams to align embedded behavior with ecological and operational goals
Support the evolution of Edge from prototype to scaled deployment in the field
Extensive experience in embedded C/C++ and real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar)
Proven track record in low-power, autonomous embedded system development for field deployment
Strong knowledge integrating sensing, signal processing, and edge intelligence within constrained environments
Familiarity with secure IoT device management, provisioning, and fleet operations
Deep experience with system validation, environmental durability, and compliance standards
Demonstrated ability to take embedded systems from prototype through production
Experience in wildlife monitoring, environmental sensing, or non-invasive deterrence technologies
Background in ruggedized product development for challenging outdoor deployments
Understanding of cloud-integrated IoT device management and analytics platforms
Experience with Zephyr RTOS
This is a startup role. You must be a self-starter, comfortable working with limited structure, and motivated by building. You should thrive in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift quickly and solutions need to be both practical and inventive.
The position is based in Stockholm. We operate a hybrid remote setup, balancing in-person collaboration with flexibility to work remotely. Equity options are available as part of the compensation package, aligning long-term incentives with the success of Flox.
You will strengthen the embedded foundation of Edge, helping ensure it operates autonomously, securely, and effectively across global deployments.
When you apply, in your cover letter, include a short paragraph on each of these:
The last thing you built that you are proud of
The last thing you failed at and what you learned
What about the human–wildlife conflict gets you fired up
