AI Acoustic Signal Engineer

ABOUT FLOX

Flox builds adaptive intelligence that interprets and responds to wildlife in real time. Our deterrent system depends on species-specific acoustic signals that reliably shape animal behaviour. This role establishes the acoustic capability that the entire platform depends on.

Role Overview

You take ownership of the acoustic signal pipeline end-to-end. You structure raw wildlife recordings, design feature representations, develop and evaluate generative models, and produce field-ready sounds that drive consistent behavioural responses. You define the standards, tooling, and methods that turn acoustic theory into operational deterrent outputs.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain the acoustic dataset: ingestion, segmentation, labeling, cleaning, and species/context organization
  • Engineer feature pipelines for bioacoustic signals (time-frequency transforms, harmonics, modulation patterns, dynamics)
  • Develop generative or synthesis models that produce species-specific deterrent signals under strict field constraints
  • Evaluate acoustic outputs for clarity, fidelity, naturalness, and behavioural relevance
  • Work with the model-training team to align acoustic generation with the Wildlife Brain’s inference outputs
  • Design playback constraints for Flox Edge hardware: amplitude shaping, spectral optimization, environment-specific tuning
  • Establish validation protocols: lab testing, controlled-environment trials, and field-response metrics
  • Create tools for monitoring degradation, drift, and environmental impacts on playback effectiveness

What You Bring

  • Deep experience in audio signal processing or bioacoustics
  • Strong foundation in acoustic feature engineering and spectrogram-level analysis
  • Experience with generative models for audio (diffusion, autoregressive, neural vocoders, synthesis pipelines)
  • Ability to move from clean lab conditions to noisy field realities
  • Engineering fluency in Python and standard audio libraries
  • Understanding of behaviour-linked auditory cues is valuable but not required
  • Ownership mindset: build the acoustic discipline inside Flox from the ground up
  • Fluent in English

Why Join Flox

You build the capability that unlocks true species-specific interaction. Your work directly determines the effectiveness of every deterrent deployed in the field.

Environment

Fast-moving, hardware-integrated, data-driven. High autonomy. Tight collaboration with AI, field operations, and hardware teams.

Location & Flexibility

Based in Stockholm with hybrid flexibility. Field interactions when required.

Role Impact

You define the sound layer of the Wildlife Brain. You turn raw recordings into controlled, behaviour-shaping signals. You establish an acoustic foundation that scales across species, environments, and future products.

When you apply, in your cover letter, include a short paragraph on each of these:

  • The last audio or signal-processing system you built end-to-end and what made it effective
  • A failure in an audio or modeling project that forced you to change your approach
  • What specifically about wildlife communication or bioacoustics makes this work meaningful to you
