ABOUT FLOX

Flox is a wildlife science technology company dedicated to enabling harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife. Founded in 2020 as a research-based spin-off from KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm, we bring together AI expertise and wildlife biology to create ethical, sustainable tools that deter without harm, monitor without intrusion, and continuously adapt to local ecosystems.

By joining, you contribute directly to protecting ecosystems, agriculture, and infrastructure—building technology that lets people and wildlife share space safely.

Position Overview:

Are you passionate about data and artificial intelligence, with a strong interest in building systems that solve real-world problems? Do you want to work in a dynamic scale-up environment, helping develop cutting-edge AI-driven wildlife management solutions? If so, Flox could be your ideal next step!

In this role, you will play a key part in building the infrastructure that powers Flox’s AI models, handling large-scale data from both vehicles and stationary devices for real-time wildlife detection and management. This hybrid position offers the flexibility of remote work, while allowing you to contribute to the development of one of the world’s most advanced wildlife management platforms.

You will collaborate closely with data scientists, AI engineers, and product teams to design, implement, and optimize the data pipelines that feed into our machine learning models. Your work will be crucial in ensuring the accuracy, scalability, and performance of our AI solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Engineering & Infrastructure:
    • Design and maintain scalable data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing large volumes of wildlife-related data from multiple devices and sensors.
    • Develop and manage data architectures that support real-time processing and AI model integration across Flox’s platform.
    • Optimize the infrastructure for both performance and scalability to handle growing data needs.
  • AI Model Integration:
    • Collaborate with AI and machine learning teams to ensure seamless integration of data pipelines with AI models for wildlife detection and classification.
    • Support the deployment and monitoring of AI models in production, ensuring data flows effectively between systems.
    • Develop tools and APIs that enable efficient access to and processing of data for model training and evaluation.
  • Data Processing & Optimization:
    • Implement efficient data preprocessing techniques, including data cleaning, feature extraction, and transformation, to prepare data for AI model training.
    • Ensure data integrity and quality across all stages of the pipeline, working with raw sensor data and real-time data streams.
    • Utilize cloud-based data storage and compute solutions (e.g., AWS, GCP) to process large-scale datasets.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork:
    • Work closely with data scientists, product engineers, and platform developers to design solutions that meet business and technical needs.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data infrastructure, driving innovation and scalability in how we manage and utilize wildlife data.
    • Collaborate on building data visualization and analytics tools to provide insights for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a data engineer or AI/data engineer, with a strong focus on building scalable data pipelines and integrating with AI models.
  • Expertise in data engineering tools and technologies such as Python, SQL, and ETL frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Spark).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) for data storage, processing, and model deployment.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML model development workflows and how data pipelines support them.
  • Experience working with large-scale, real-time data from IoT devices, sensors, or similar sources is a plus.
  • Fluent in English.

Why Join Flox?

At Flox, we are building cutting-edge AI and data-driven platforms that address real-world challenges in wildlife management. As an AI/Data Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and optimizing the data infrastructure that powers our platform, working with real-time data from devices deployed on trains, drones, and stationary units. Based in Stockholm, we offer a hybrid working model that encourages creativity, collaboration, and work-life balance.

STARTUP ENVIRONMENT

This is a startup role. You must be a self-starter, comfortable working with limited structure, and ready to take ownership across disciplines when needed. You should thrive in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift quickly and solutions need to be both practical and innovative. You will have significant influence, high autonomy, and the opportunity to shape both product and culture as we scale.

LOCATION AND FLEXIBILITY

The position is based in Stockholm. We operate a hybrid remote setup, balancing in-person collaboration with flexibility to work remotely. Equity options are available as part of the compensation package, aligning long-term incentives with the success of Flox.

ROLE IMPACT

You will shape the embedded intelligence and connectivity enabling Flox devices to operate autonomously, securely, and effectively across global deployments.

When you apply, in your cover letter, include a short paragraph on each of these:

  1. The last thing you built that you are proud of

  2. The last thing you failed at and what you learned

  3. What about the human–wildlife conflict gets you fired up
